The Guardian Foundation is a UK-based charity that aims to promote global press freedom and access to liberal Journalism. The charity works across sectors to enable change in three priority areas:
- News & media literacy: to build upon an individual’s ability to critically evaluate the news they consume
- Voice & agency: to facilitate inclusion in the media and journalistic sectors
- Media viability: to foster the capacity of the media to engage people with fact-based journalism
The Scott Trust Bursery is one of the charity’s key programs and aims to assist students who are hampered by financial constraints to pursue careers within Journalism. The Bursary primarily targets those from underrepresented backgrounds, i.e. Black, Asian and Ethnic minorities, LGBTQ+, lower socio-economic backgrounds and those with disability ( both visible and hidden).
